Oakland Youth Chorus

Diversity. Harmony. Unity.

At the Oakland Youth Chorus, we build respect and friendship through music, creating connections across barriers and empowering young voices calling for social change.

Why It Matters

The Oakland Youth Chorus provides Bay Area students of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds a comprehensive music education. We ensure ALL students have every opportunity and advantage to gain access to the arts. Music plays a vital role in a young person’s life. We empower and amplify the voices of our future culture keepers, change-makers, and global citizens.

Non-Discrimination Policy

Oakland Youth Chorus unites diverse communities and transforms young people’s lives through excellence in music education and community performance. OYC is a secular, inclusive choral organization that welcomes singers from all backgrounds.

“I was a member of the chorus from 1986 through 1991.
The group gave me many close friendships which have lasted to this day.”

– R. Brady

“I’m an alumni and OYC shaped me and prepared me for my music career that lay ahead!”

– S. Becker

There’s something about singing that’s impossible to describe – the raw
vulnerability of offering your voice and your artistry to an audience, a power that is both painful and beautiful at the same time. Through OYC, I have learned to be confident and to act with purpose in all areas of my life.

– Eleanor, class of 2020

“As a lifelong musician and music educator with experience in arts administration, I have seen organizations of this type from many sides, and I’ve never seen an organization quite like OYC.”

– Lara B.
