Begin Your Musical Journey With OYC!

The Oakland Youth Chorus offers a variety of programs for children and youth ages 5-21 throughout Oakland. OYC's unique approach combines repertoire from cultures around the world, professional performance opportunities, a solid foundation in music theory, and the chance to make friends from all over Oakland and the East Bay.

Oakland Youth Chorus is pleased to offer classes at three schools in Alameda - Earhart, Franklin and Otis.  Check with your school and on your school's website about registration procedures through Alameda Education Foundation.

In addition, OYC offers its classes with affordable sliding scale prices. Families are encouraged to determine what they can afford within a class's price range.

OYC ALL-CITY MIRACLE CHORUS: Fall 2010 Session, Grades K-5

REHEARSAL DATES AND TIMES

OYC's All-City Miracle Chorus will rehearse on Tuesdays, September 7 - December 14, 2010 at the First Unitarian Church of Oakland, 685 14th St. at Castro.  It will be led by the talented and engaging senior teacher Rhonda Crane.

Children in K through 2nd grade will rehearse from 4 - 5pm, and children in 3rd through 5th grade will rehearse from 5:10 - 6:10pm.

The program observes OUSD-wide holidays and therefore will not meet on Tuesday, November 23, 2010.

FEES

The fee for this program is a sliding scale of $100 - $250.  OYC encourages each family to determine how much they can afford to pay.

OYC MIRACLE CHORUS at CHABOT: Fall 2010 Session, Grades K-5

REHEARSAL DATES AND TIMES

OYC's Miracle Chorus at Chabot will rehearse on Mondays, September 13 – December 6, 2010 at Chabot Elementary and is only open to Chabot Elementary Students. It will be led by the talented and engaging senior teacher Rhonda Crane.

Children in K through 2nd grade will rehearse from 2:55-3:45pm, and children in 3rd through 5th grade will rehearse from 3:55-4:45pm.

The program will not meet on the following dates: 11/1/10 and 11/22/10.

OYC MIRACLE CHORUS at GLENVIEW: Fall 2010 Session, Grades K-5

REHEARSAL DATES AND TIMES

OYC's Miracle Chorus at Glenview will rehearse on Mondays beginning in September 2010 at Glenview Elementary and is only open to Glenview Elementary Students. It will be led by the talented and engaging teacher Bryan Dyer.

Grades K-1 will rehearse on Tuesdays from 2:55pm-3:40pm and grades 2-5 will rehearse from 3:45-4:30pm. Rehearsals for the Fall 2010 session run September 14 through November 16, 2010.

OYC's Miracle Chorus at Kaiser Elementary is only open to Kaiser Elementary Students. It will be led by talented senior teacher Michelle Jacques.

Grades K-2 will rehearse on Tuesdays 3-4pm and grades 3-5 will rehearse Thursdays 3-4pm. Rehearsals for the Fall 2010 session run September 14 through December 16, 2010.

The program will not meet 10/12/10, 10/14/10, 11/11/10, 11/23/10, 11/25/10.

OYC MIRACLE CHORUS at MONTCLAIR: Fall 2010 Session, Grades 2-5

OYC is pleased to bring our choral programming to several new schools in 2010-2011.  OYC's Miracle Chorus at Montclair Elementary is only open to Montclair Elementary Students.

Grades 2-5 will rehearse on Wednesdays 1:35-2:30pm. Rehearsals for the Fall 2010 session run September 22 through November 10, 2010.

OYC'S MIDDLE SCHOOL MAGIC CHORUS at HILLCREST MIDDLE SCHOOL: Fall 2010 Session - NEW!

Hillcrest's Middle School Magic singers get to sing music of many different types, meet new friends, travel, learn new things, and have a great time!

Middle School Magic at Hillcrest Middle School will be led by La Nell Martin, Director of OYC’s Choral Programs. Hillcrest students in 6th through 8th grade are eligible.  No audition is required for Middle School Magic.

CLASS DATES AND TIMES

Hillcrest's Middle School Magic Chorus will meet Wednesdays 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm September 15 through November 10, 2010.

Hillcrest's Middle School Magic is also a part of our larger MSM Chorus.
OYC's Middle School Magic singers perform in both all-OYC concerts (December and May) as well as a spring choral competition. In addition, Middle School Magic performs periodically throughout the year. More information about these performances will be sent home with the singer as these are scheduled. OYC asks that both parents and singers make a commitment to consistent attendance at classes and rehearsals as well as attendance at performances whenever possible.

Failure to fulfill these responsibilities may result in dismissal from the chorus.

FEES

The Registration fee for Hillcrest's Fall 2010 Session (Sept. 15-Nov. 10, 2010) is a sliding scale of $120-$250.  OYC encourages each family to determine how much they can afford to pay. There are occasional additional fees for trips, social events, and concert clothing.

OYC's HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT CHORUS: 2010-2011 Season

OYC’s award-winning Concert Chorus has been wowing audiences for nearly 35 years, and has performed all over the world, with special guest artists such as Bobby McFerrin, Linda Tillery, SoVoSo, and Keith Terry. American Idol finalist La Toya London and singer Goapele are both alumni of OYC, and say they got a great musical foundation and met lifetime friends here.

Whether you're the next American Idol or just want to have fun singing with some new friends, we hope you’ll join us!

Concert Chorus is directed by La Nell Martin, Director of OYC's Choral Programs.

REHEARSAL DATES AND TIMES

OYC’s Concert Chorus rehearses Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30 pm – 6:15 pm at the First Unitarian Church of Oakland, 685 14th St. at Castro. Rehearsals for the 2010-2011 Season begin Tuesday, September 14, 2010.

If singers miss 2 rehearsals, a Friday night make-up rehearsal is required before returning to Chorus.

The Concert Chorus performs in both all-OYC concerts (December and May) as well as a spring choral competition. In addition, Concert Chorus performs frequently throughout the year. More information about these performances will be sent home with the singer as these are scheduled.
