Begin Your Musical Journey With OYC!

The Oakland Youth Chorus offers a variety of programs throughout Oakland and Alameda for children and youth ages 5-21. OYC's unique approach combines repertoire from cultures around the world, professional performance opportunities, a solid foundation in music theory, and the chance to make friends from all over Oakland and the East Bay.

ALAMEDA SINGERS: Oakland Youth Chorus is pleased to offer classes at four elementary schools in Alameda (Franklin, Lum, NEA and Otis) plus Lincoln Middle School. Any Alameda Unified School District student may enroll in any of these classes. Visit Alameda Education Foundation at www.alamedaeducationfoundation.org for registration information.

In addition, OYC offers a daytime class in Oakland and Alameda for East Bay home-schooled students.  See below for details and how to register.

OYC CONCERT CHORUS: Winter 2012 Session

OYC’s award-winning Concert Chorus includes both middle school and high school students this year.  Oakland Youth Chorus teens have been wowing audiences for 37 years, and have performed all over the world, with special guest artists such as Bobby McFerrinLinda TillerySoVoSo, and Keith Terry. American Idol finalist La Toya London and singer Goapele are both alumni of OYC, and say they got a great musical foundation and met lifetime friends here.

Whether you're the next American Idol or just want to have professional, yet highly joyful, musical training, we hope you'll join us!

Concert Chorus is directed by La Nell Martin, OYC's Artistic and Education Director.

REHEARSAL DATES AND TIMES

Middle School singers meet on Mondays 4:30-6:00pm and Tuesdays 4:30-6:15pm.

High School singers meet on Tuesdays 4:30-6:15pm and Wednesdays 4:30-6:00pm.

Both ensembles meet at the First Unitarian Church of Oakland, 685 14th St. at Castro.

The 13-week Winter Session runs the week of February 6 through the week of May 14, 2012.

If singers miss 2 rehearsals, a Thursday night make-up rehearsal is required before returning to Chorus.

The Concert Chorus performs in both all-OYC concerts (December and May) as well as a spring choral competition. In addition, Concert Chorus performs frequently throughout the year. More information about these performances will be sent home with the singer as these are scheduled. OYC asks that both parents and singers make a commitment to consistent attendance at rehearsals as well as attendance at performances whenever possible.

FEES

The tuition fee for the Winter 2012 session is $425.  This fee includes over 50 hours of instruction and performance time, all copies of music needed, an OYC t-shirt, performance attire, retreats and workshops, and the initial registration fee for the spring 2012 competition and tour to Las Vegas.

OYC ALL-CITY MIRACLE CHORUS: Winter 2012 Session, Grades K-5

REHEARSAL DATES AND TIMES

OYC's All-City Miracle Chorus rehearses on Tuesdays at the First Unitarian Church of Oakland, 685 14th St. at Castro.  It is led by the talented and engaging senior teacher Rhonda Crane.

Aspiring singers in K through 5th grade rehearse 4:30-5:30pm.  If enrollment is high enough, the classes may need to be separated to make sure everyone has the best experience possible.

The Winter 2012 session runs January 10 through March 13, 2012.

FEES

The tuition fee for the Winter 2012 session is $200. Tuition includes over 20 hours of instruction and performance time, instruction taught to CA State Music Standards, opportunities to perform with guest conductors and musical organizations, and copies of music being taught. OYC MIRACLE CHORUS at CHABOT: Winter 2012 Session, Grades K-5

REHEARSAL DATES AND TIMES

OYC's Miracle Chorus at Chabot rehearses on Mondays at Chabot Elementary and is only open to Chabot Elementary Students. It is led by the talented and engaging senior teacher Rhonda Crane.

Aspiring singers in K through 2nd grade rehearse from 3:00-3:50pm, and singers in 3rd through 5th grade rehearse from 4:00-4:50pm. The classes may need to be combined if enrollment falls below the 10 singer minimum.

The Winter 2012 session runs January 9 through March 12.  The program observes OUSD-wide holidays and therefore will not meet on January 16 and February 20, 2012.

FEES

The tuition fee for the Winter 2012 session is $180. Tuition includes over 20 hours of instruction and performance time, instruction taught to CA State Music Standards, opportunities to perform with guest conductors and musical organizations, and copies of music being taught. OYC's Miracle Chorus at Glenview is only open to Glenview Elementary students. It will be led by the talented and engaging senior teacher Bryan Dyer.

Aspiring singers in K through 2nd grade rehearse on Tuesdays from 2:55-3:40pm and singers in 3rd through 5th grade rehearse from 3:45-4:30pm. The classes may need to be combined if enrollment falls below the 10 singer minimum.

The Winter 2012 session runs January 17 through March 20, 2012.

FEES

The tuition fee for the Winter 2012 session is $200. Tuition includes over 15 hours of instruction and performance time, instruction taught to CA State Music Standards, opportunities to perform with guest conductors and musical organizations, and copies of music being taught. OYC's Miracle Chorus at Hillcrest will rehearse on Mondays at Hillcrest Elementary and is only open to Hillcrest Elementary students. It will be led by the talented and engaging teacher Angela Kempe.

Aspiring singers in 1st through 5th grade rehearse on Mondays from 3:00-4:00pm.

The Winter 2012 session runs Dec 5, 2011 through March 5, 2012. The program observes OUSD-wide holidays and therefore will not meet on Dec 19, Dec 26, 2011, and Jan 16 and Feb 20, 2012.

The Winter/Spring 2012 session runs February 10 through June 8, 2012.
The program observes OUSD-wide holidays and therefore will not meet on March 30, April 13 or May 25, 2012).

The tuition fee for the 15-week Winter/Spring 2012 session is $300 for new students. Continuing students will receive a $100 discount. Tuition includes over 20 hours of instruction and performance time, instruction taught to CA State Music Standards, opportunities to perform with guest conductors and musical organizations, and copies of music being taught. OYC's Miracle Chorus for Alameda Homeschoolers and Kindergartners will rehearse on Tuesdays, 1:30-2:30pm at Rhythmix Cultural Works (2513 Blanding Avenue, Alameda) and is open to any Kinder through 5th grader in Alameda and the greater East Bay. It will be led by the talented and engaging teacher Holly Burnett.
